Exclusive offer for IAKS members:
The countries of Scandinavia, first and foremost Denmark, are pioneers of innovative sports and leisure facilities. Copenhagen’s population enjoys a high quality of life, with the numerous experimental exercise spaces undoubtedly contributing to general well-being. Creativity has brought with it appreciation: the last few years, a total of six sports and leisure facilities have been commended with the IOC IPC IAKS architecture award. Copenhagen has thus quietly evolved into the capital city of our architecture award for exemplary sports facility architecture.
The 2018 IAKS Study Trip gives you the unique opportunity to get to know the lighthouse projects in Copenhagen in the space of two days. Tour futuristic sports facilities, indoor and outdoor: be it in the harbour, on the roof of a multi-storey car park, as a welcome addition to a socially deprived district or on the sloping roof of a waste incineration plant. Cast a glance behind the scenes in areas you would have no access to without the study trip. Find out about successful operation strategies. Talk to the architects and let yourself be inspired by their innovative ideas.
The IAKS is delighted to be able to offer its members this exclusive study trip.
The travel package comprises:
- Accommodation (single room) at Hotel Scandic Hvidovre (bed & breakfast) from 24 to 25 May 2018
- Tour by coach
- The tour will take place in English by the operators or architects of the respective projects
- light lunch on May 24 and 25, dinner on May 24 (drinks to be paid individually)
- Double room
- Extension of stay (arrival on 23 May, departure on 26 or 27 May)
Return journey to be organised individually. The tour starts on May 24 at 10 am departing from CPH airport and ends on May 25 at 4 pm at CPH airport.
Make sure to organise your journey in time. Copenhagen is hosting the era/edta congress from May 24 to 27 with over 10,000 attendees. This is why we have reserved rooms in Hotel Hvidovre outside Copenhagen city centre to save money.
We shall be assisted locally by a representative of the Lokale og Anlægsfonden (LOA). This foundation develops and supports construction projects in the fields of sport, culture and leisure and provides consultancy in the region.
The trip will also be accompanied on site by IAKS President Dr Stefan Kannewischer and further IAKS Executive Board members, so there will be sufficient opportunity for an exchange of views. Dr Kannewischer supervised a Swiss delegation on an almost identical study trip in 2016.
