Issue 2/2013 of our “sb” is dedicated to "Stadiums and sports grounds". Tradition-steeped Torino FC in Italy has rediscovered its traditional stadium site and is building a hybrid training and shopping centre in a central and prestigious location.
Issue 1/2013 focuses on sports halls. Sustainable and unusual is the sports hall on Milson Island, Australia, which fits skilfully and modestly into its surroundings and makes use of available and renewable construction materials.
This issue is devoted to new technical and technological opportunities in stadiums and arenas. Equipped with a four-part roof that can be closed within 30 minutes, an extremely versatile stadium opened in August of this year in Lille in northern France.
“Transformation” is the overriding theme of this “sb”. In China a velodrome is being built on the roof of a café, and in the
Czech Republic there’s an equestrian hall that looks like an oversized stork’s nest.
We always look forward particularly to the pools issue of “sb” because summer is on its way here in Cologne and we ask ourselves which of these attractive facilities could be our holiday destination this year. Again, the decision this year isn’t easy.
